Plant leather patch

Material: a bio-based sheet from plant fibres

This patch is neither animal leather nor ordinary PU, but a family of bio-based sheets: fibres extracted from plant waste such as apple pomace, cactus and pineapple leaf, then re-formed into sheet material. Against conventional leather and petroleum-based PU they carry a lower carbon footprint and are biodegradable. This sample is embossed “X APPLE”, meaning apple leather — fibres recovered from the pomace left after apple juicing. Cactus leather and pineapple-leaf leather belong to the same family and can be specified per project. The surface has a matte, fine leather grain in a classic tan brown, cleanly cut at the edges without the plastic look of cheap synthetics.

Craft: deep embossing with double stitching

Both the “PLANT LEATHER X APPLE” lettering and the YPCLYET copyright mark at the lower right are deep-embossed: crisp, dimensional, and palpable under the finger. That is also the usual approach on eco materials — embossing instead of printing avoids extra ink. Around the edge runs double reinforced stitching in dark brown, dense and even, matching the leather: as much about appearance as about holding power.

Where it fits, and customisation

Patches like this suit eco-concept denim, everyday casual, streetwear and gift or limited-edition lines — the patch itself becomes an eco label you can talk about at retail. Size, colour, plant-fibre source (apple, cactus, pineapple leaf and others), embossed content, thread colour and backing are all made to your drawing.
