Material: aged full-grain cowhide with a velvet grain

The base is full-grain cowhide, specially aged to a deep tan brown — a settled tone that reads older the longer you look at it. The surface carries a pronounced deer-velvet grain: soft to the touch, restrained in sheen, visually close to deerskin while remaining cowhide — so strength and consistency are better, cost is more controllable, and you avoid the scarcity and compliance questions that come with real deerskin. Depth of grain and degree of ageing can both be tuned to your brand positioning.

Craft: relief forming and ageing

The relief and the velvet grain are produced on the same leather face, so pattern and texture stack on top of each other — giving a patch far more physical depth than a flat one. Grain and relief can be made by press bonding or by laser, chosen according to your artwork and the effect you want; the ageing step then follows, letting raised areas and recesses fall into a natural light-and-shade transition — which is where the vintage character comes from. All six processes run in our own factory, so colour difference and batch consistency stay our responsibility.

Where it fits, and customisation

Patches like this suit amekaji, vintage workwear and heritage denim — where looking older is the point, which sits exactly with what denim enthusiasts want. They also work for smart-casual and everyday lines, where a patch does not need to shout but has to feel substantial in the hand. Size, shape, degree of ageing, depth of velvet grain, colour, relief depth and backing are all made to your drawing. The garment shown is a client-supplied sample, included only to show placement and effect; it is not sold with the patch.
